Real World Invisibility Cloak

26 08 2008

They are making progress. And not to be a snob but still, this is your standard Wizarding invisibility cloak with Muggle branded versions of Disilliusioning Charms. That’s still incredible and Arthur Weasley would totally flip out over that. But as a Harry Potter nerd, I just can’t see how any of this is going tomatch the caliber of a cloak crafted by Death for one of the brothers Peverell. I mean, you know?

As we reported previously, the “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” film and a number of its cast, along with Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling, were nominees at the 2008 SyFy Genre Awards. These virtual awards allow fans to vote for their favorite film, series, book, and actor from the science fiction and fantasy genre each year. The winners of the SyFy Awards have been announced and include actress Emma Watson (Hermione Granger), in the category of Best Actress in a Film, as well as “Order of the Phoenix” in the category of Best Film. In addition to this, the article notes that Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling was chosen to receive the Gene Roddenberry Lifetime Achievement award. Congratulations to all!

Marketing for “The Tales of Beedle the Bard”

26 08 2008

As readers are aware, “The Tales of Beedle the Bard,” the new book for charity by author J.K. Rowling will be published on December 4, 2008. As we draw nearer to the release of the new companion book to the Harry Potter series, retailers have begun their marketing campaign for the book. Thanks to TLC staffer Andy, who spotted a few ads and leaflets that are appearing in the UK and sent in some new photos of the ads. You can see a new leaflet from WHSmith here, and a new bookmark from Waterstone’s here, as well as various signs as they appear in the book stores here in our image galleries. UPDATEThanks to TLC reader Sebastian, we now have a photo of a sign at Borders. We also believe here in the US and elsewhere, many retailers have begun their campaigns as well (such as Dymocks in Australia, thanks Bianca!), so if you are out and about, please send in your photos or other scans, ads and the like to staff@the-leaky-cauldron.org and we will continue to update this album as we can.
